The Dragon Bravo Fire raging in the Grand Canyon area has surged to become the largest active wildfire in the United States this year, engulfing an estimated 105,415 acres with a mere 9% containment, reported earlier by Arizona representative Walt Blackman. Blackman, who has been closely following the firefighting efforts, emphasizes the importance of adhering to safety directives from emergency officials. In a statement issued by the Arizona House of Representatives, the local authority warns residents to act swiftly in the face of evacuation orders, prioritizing safety above all else.
More than 1,100 personnel are working non-stop, braving the challenging conditions to try and bring the Dragon Bravo Fire under control. The historic North Rim Lodge is counted among the 70 structures so far claimed by the blaze. “Our prayers are with the brave firefighters risking their lives to contain the Dragon Bravo Fire and with all Arizonans affected by this devastating event," Blackman stated. The Bureau of Land Management has since been compelled to put in place an emergency closure of all lands within a defined perimeter due to the spread of the fire, as stated by the Arizona House of Representatives.
The closures and the deepening crisis are reshaping local geography with routes like U.S. Route 89A being recently reopened, while Grand Canyon Highway (State Route 67) continues to remain off-limits. Blackman's communication highlights the scale of this disaster, noting that it has already secured a grim spot as the 10th largest in Arizona's recorded history. The representative, who serves Legislative District 7 and chairs the House Government Committee, has reassured constituents of ongoing updates and support, as reported by the Arizona House of Representatives.
Continuous updates are to be expected as Blackman and his team remain in contact with local emergency departments managing the crisis.
