The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office resolved two standoffs earlier this week, including one on Wednesday in Grass Valley that led to the arrest of 31-year-old Star Louise Lemas. Deputies responded after silent and dropped 911 calls and were told by a woman that she had left her home to avoid an alleged assault by Lemas, who she said had assaulted her before, as reported by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies used a PA system to ask Lemas to leave the home, but she did not comply. Four other people who were not involved in the incident left the residence, while Lemas remained inside. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said Lemas had several out-of-county warrants related to weapons and narcotics charges, and deputies believed she might have access to a shotgun in the home.
After more than two hours of negotiations, deputies with assistance from the Grass Valley Police Department and drone technology found Lemas barricaded in an attic. She surrendered after a chemical agent was deployed, and a shotgun was later recovered from the home. Following a medical evaluation, Lemas was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on charges of resisting a peace officer, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession related to hard drugs with prior convictions, and outstanding warrants, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page.
