A high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle concluded with a collision in downtown Los Angeles, leaving a trail of destruction and personal upheaval in its wake. Officers of the Los Angeles Police Department had initiated a pursuit of a stolen white pickup truck on Friday morning, which ended when the suspect crashed the truck into an SUV, resulting in the SUV flipping over in the Historic South-Central neighborhood, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department to KTLA.
The chase began near the intersection of Wall and 5th Street at approximately 7:22 a.m. and spanned a brief duration before LAPD officers transitioned from pursuit to tracking from the air due to the suspect's dangerous driving behavior; indeed, the dangerous chase and collision at the junction of Washington Boulevard and Trinity Street occurred when the pilfered vehicle, traveling at speeds upwards of 83 mph, plowed into the SUV and upended it, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles.
The aftermath of the crash was captured on video, showing the driver of the SUV crawling out from the overturned vehicle before being transported to a hospital; although the full scope of her injuries remains undisclosed, Los Angeles police confirmed the driver was treated in an ambulance at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, narratively depicted by footage from aerial sources like Sky5, which covered the incident as relayed by NBC Los Angeles.
The suspect driver, after complaining of injuries, was also taken to a local hospital and is expected to be booked into the City Jail upon treatment, whereas the stolen truck's owner, Shelby Hazelett, later arrived at the scene to confront the resultant damage to his vehicle and livelihood, lamenting the harm caused to an innocent person and the significant disruption to his work, he does not know how he would manage the duties of his profession or commute subsequently, a sentiment echoed in his statement obtained by ABC7 Eyewitness News, "I don't know how I am going to get to work, I don't know how I'm going to do my job... This really has put me in a super horrible spot."
