Houston residents should prepare for a stormy weekend ahead. According to the National Weather Service, there's a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, primarily after 1 p.m., with the risk increasing to 50 percent on Sunday. Majority of the skies will be sunny despite these chances, and temperatures will hover around a high of 94 degrees.
Heading into the evening, Houstonians could see a continuing chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of precipitation and a low of around 78 degrees overnight. While the front won't significantly drop temperatures, a stalled front is expected to bring thunderstorms between 5 and 7 p.m. today, as per Click2Houston.
Not all areas will see rainfall, but there is a marginal risk of flash flooding across the region. A stationary front, combined with moisture from the Gulf, is expected to contribute to heavier downpours by the weekend. Southeast Texas is under a Level 1 out of 4 flood threat, and street flooding may occur. In Houston, storms are projected to begin after 1 p.m., with the highest likelihood of activity between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Moreover, even though no tropical development is forecasted in the Gulf over the next seven days, the region is now entering the peak of the tropical season. "We're starting to see some indication that we'll have more activity as we get into the month of August," states the Click2Houston article. Residents are urged to prepare for this hurricane season by referencing the available 2025 Hurricane and Flood Survival Guide.
The rainy spell is anticipated to continue through Tuesday, following which an increase in heat and humidity is expected. The extended forecast suggests persistence of the stormy patterns over the next several days, with mostly sunny days interspersed with occasional showers and thunderstorms.
