As the end of summer approaches, Houston is expected to see changing weather conditions. The National Weather Service reports a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, primarily during the afternoon hours. Storms are projected to develop near the coast earlier in the day and move inland by evening, with thunderstorm activity expected to diminish by around 8 p.m.
Looking ahead to early next week, Click2Houston reports that students will return to school amid ongoing rain and storm activity. High humidity and elevated temperatures are expected to persist, with the heat index potentially reaching up to 103 degrees each day.
The Atlantic currently hosts two disturbances being monitored for potential development. The first, a tropical wave, shows no chance of formation over the next two days and a 20% chance over the next week, as weakening thunderstorms move through drier air. The second system, located off the coast of Africa, carries a 10% chance of development within two days, increasing to 70% over the next seven days. While these systems are not expected to impact Houston at this time, residents are advised to remain prepared as hurricane season continues.
Rain is expected to be followed by increased heat and humidity across Houston. The extended forecast indicates sustained high temperatures and a continued chance of afternoon thunderstorms, especially in areas near the coast.
