A multi-alarm fire consumed a beloved South Shore seafood restaurant this morning, drawing a robust response from several fire departments across neighboring communities. The establishment, a fixture at 291 Ocean Street with a history spanning nearly nine decades under the moniker Haddad’s Ocean Café before its recent rebirth under a new name, encountered a devastating blow as flames tore through the 13,000-square-foot, two-story building. Fire departments from Duxbury, Kingston, and Pembroke, along with others, rushed to the scene, collaborating in a determined effort to quell the rampant conflagration, NBC Boston reports.
According to the Hanover MA Fire Department, via a social media post, Hanover sent Car 1, Engine 1, and Ambulance 1 to offer mutual aid assistance at the Marshfield fire, and off-duty personnel were summoned to manage additional calls within Hanover, a reflection of the intense mobilization that such emergencies demand, yet presenting a challenging situation wherein resources and manpower are stretched thin—further emphasizing the exigent nature of the community’s response to crisis.
The fire, initially reported around 6 a.m., inflicted the dual-decked establishment known for its spacious function hall and capacity to accommodate up to 400 patrons. Photos posted on social media depicted the intense struggle as firefighters combated the heavy smoke and flames that threatened to consume the building entirely. The extent of the damage to the restaurant has yet to be determined, and officials have not released any information regarding potential injuries from the incident.
