Matthew Terry King, 39, of Indian Trail, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted first-degree murder, after an incident at an Uptown Charlotte bar. Queen City News reported that the incident occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday last week in the 300 block of Brevard Street.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers found a man with a serious cut on his left hand outside the bar and King nearby, covered in blood, with a machete-style blade and brass knuckles. According to The Charlotte Observer, King had been removed from the bar earlier after an altercation but returned armed, approached a patron, and attacked.

Court documents state King attempted to strike the victim in the head with brass knuckles before swinging the machete. The victim blocked the blow with his hand, sustaining a deep cut that required surgery, Queen City News reported. A second person assisting in restraining King suffered a minor cut.

WCNC identified the victims as Kurt Lee Casey and Jeffrey Vangordon. Casey was attacked from behind and required surgery for his injuries. Vangordon, who helped subdue King, sustained a cut to his thigh. Bystanders held King until police arrived.

King was taken to a hospital for minor injuries and is being held without bond. His case is scheduled for court review at the end of August.
