Three workers from the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) sustained injuries during a morning incident at a downtown Orlando substation. As reported by WPXI, the event unfolded around 8:57 a.m. in the vicinity of West Robinson Street and Garland Avenue, resulting in a significant response from Orlando firefighters and police.
The OUC confirmed with WPXI that "an incident happened on one of its substations." A spokesperson informed that crews are investigating and performing repairs but did not elaborate on the precise nature of the occurrence, which incited a pause in SunRail service causing delays that might bother commuters for at least an hour, and while the emergency teams provided medical assistance and at least one individual was taken away from the scene in an ambulance, the Orlando Fire Department has confirmed medical transports though without disclosing specifics.
During the initial emergency response, online firefighter dispatch resources listed the event as an "explosion," but neither fire nor law enforcement officials substantiated this claim. The Orlando Fire Department reported that 16 units responded to the call and that the scene was officially classified as active.
As the investigation carries on, SunRail has disclosed to ClickOrlando that they are actively keeping an eye on the situation and will communicate updates, affecting passengers who travel particularly between AdventHealth and Orlando Regional Medical Center stations, and said delays could last up to 60 minutes, causing an inconvenience for many who rely on the rail service for their daily commute.
