In the ever-evolving social media landscape, Instagram is rolling out new features to bolster user connections. According to Meta's announcement, the platform allows users to repost public reels and feed posts. The company suggests this feature will enable creators to have their content recommended to a broader audience, potentially reaching those who do not already follow them. Additionally, these reposts will have a dedicated tab on one's profile, offering a way to reminisce about past interests.

A new Instagram map also joins the suite of features. As per Instagram's guide, users can share their last active location with select friends, a choice that can be reversed at any point. Content from friends and creators tagged with locations will appear on this map, providing insights into activities and places of interest. However, responses to the map's introduction have been mixed. Some users are concerned about privacy, likening Instagram's move to previous initiatives like Snapchat's Snap Maps, and worry about the implications for individuals like domestic violence survivors.

Turning off location sharing involves navigating to the Map via Messages and adjusting the settings to "no one" to ensure thorough privacy. If location access isn't granted to Instagram, the map feature remains disabled. Addressing confusion over the newly seen content on maps, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri clarified, "Your last reel is showing up on the map, not your current location. Your live location is not being shared, and it will never be unless you decide to share it," as reported in The Verge.
