On a day when a simple shopping trip turned sour, a credit card fraudster took advantage of a couple's misfortune in Jacksonville. According to a social media plea from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the suspect hit the jackpot by looting a purse left in an unlocked car, and proceeded to indulge in a shopping spree, racking up over $500 on stolen credit cards at various stores.
The crime was reported last month after a couple discovered their vehicle had been burglarized while shopping on Max Leggett Parkway near I-95, with a patrol officer responding to their call for help. The audacious thievery, as captured by store cameras, now has local authorities hot on the heels of this opportunist. In what seems to be an act of immediate gratification, the man behind the heist didn't hesitate to treat himself. As the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office notes, "We also want to complete his shopping haul with a shiny pair of silver bracelets."
Staunch in their determination to close the case, officials have turned to the public for assistance in identifying the thief, asserting a preference for justice over anonymity. A call to action has been extended with the office suggesting, "If you recognize him, call 904.630.0500." And, for those inclined to the promise of payoff for their civic duty, a tip leading to an arrest through First Coast Crime Stoppers could result in a cash reward, per the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's post.
While the direct link to this particular misdeed might elude your knowledge, there's still a chance to be instrumental in other unresolved cases. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office social media post implores, "Don’t know him? You can still help. Check out our Unsolved Crimes page. You never know who else might ring a bell."
