Drivers in Louisiana now have a new way to honor Jefferson Parish’s 200-year history. In partnership with the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles, the parish has introduced a special Bicentennial license plate. The commemorative plate is available for cars, vans, trucks under 16,000 pounds, and recreational vehicles. According to a statement from the Jefferson Parish, the plate is available for any Louisianan with a properly titled and registered vehicle in their name.
The Bicentennial plates offer more than a nod to local history—they also support a community cause. Each plate includes a $50 royalty fee that goes to the Jefferson Community Foundation. Residents interested in purchasing the plates should also be aware of additional costs, including standard registration fees, a $3.50 administrative handling fee, and an $8 handling charge.
Louisiana residents can take advantage of a convenient option by completing the required paperwork online through the state’s Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) website. Those who prefer traditional methods can submit the necessary documents by mail to the OMV Specialized Vehicle Unit in Baton Rouge, which will process the request and mail the Bicentennial plate upon completion. Tricentennial plates are also available at all three Jefferson Parish Office of Motor Vehicles locations for residents with properly titled vehicles.
