Justin Rose claimed victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship after a sudden-death playoff against J.J. Spaun, with both players finishing regulation tied at 16-under par. The playoff, held at TPC Southwind, extended through two tied holes before Rose secured the win with a birdie on the third. Spaun was unable to match the score. As reported by Action News 5, Rose earned $3.6 million in prize money and 2,000 points in the FedEx Cup standings.
The win followed a late-round push from Rose, 45, who made four consecutive birdies from holes 14 through 17 to reach the tie. A missed 13-foot birdie putt on the 18th left the match undecided, sending it into extra holes, according to The Commercial Appeal.
Earlier in the round, Tommy Fleetwood had held the lead for much of the back nine, but a par on the 16th and a bogey on the 17th ended his chances of winning. He ultimately tied for third place with Scottie Scheffler, who also finished one stroke short of the playoff, Golfweek reported.
Beyond the tournament result, the event also played a key role in the FedEx Cup Playoffs standings. Only the top 50 players advance to the BMW Championship, and the St. Jude Championship served as the final opportunity for players to secure their positions. Golfweek provided a standings tracker throughout the event to monitor who qualified for the next round.
