Residents of Keller will want to mark their calendars for August 12 as the Planning & Zoning Commission is set to hold two public hearings that could shape the future layout of their community. The first item on the agenda is a proposed Specific Use Permit (SUP) for an addition to an accessory structure at 1611 Knox Road, with owner Danny Ahlers seeking permission for a 550 square-foot expansion to an existing 775 square-foot building, as per the City of Keller.
Also up for discussion, the commission will debate a zoning change for The Preserve at Keller Oaks, a space currently zoned for Single-Family 36,000 square-foot lots and commercial use; the proposed change would welcome a new Planned Development featuring 65 residential lots, one commercial lot, and an expanse of open space measuring roughly 6.77 acres across a 33.68-acre tract of land, which Curtis Young of Sage Group, Inc., applies for and is partly owned by Sue Salstrand and Anne Burfitt of the PBS Family Limited Partnership, as detailed in the notice with proposal number ZONE-2506-0007. Furthermore, a related Future Land Use Plan (FLUP) Amendment titled PA-2506-0005 is also proposed, aiming to reclassify the land from Mixed-Use and Medium-Density Single Family to High-Density Single Family with smaller lot sizes ranging from 8,000 to 14,999 square feet, with an accompanying map available for review.
The upcoming meeting is not only a venue for the commission to hear these proposals, but also an opportunity for residents to voice their opinions on the future development of their community. Community engagement plays a critical role in shaping the outcomes of such hearings, as decisions made by the commission can significantly impact the local landscape, traffic patterns, and overall character of Keller. Any stakeholder looking for additional details or wishing to get involved is encouraged to reach out to the Community Development department at 817-743-4130.
All interested parties should be prepared for the hearings to commence at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Keller Town Hall, located at 1100 Bear Creek Parkway; the full agenda for the meeting will be posted by Thursday, August 7, for further review.
