Kingsport residents looking for a fresh approach to fitness can now put their gloves up and jab their way to better health. In a push to provide diverse fitness opportunities, the city's Parks and Recreation Department has introduced a "Boxing for Fitness" program, scheduled to run from September 10 through October 15 at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex. As per the City of Kingsport, sessions will kick off at 6 p.m. and wind down by 7 p.m. every Wednesday, targeting children ages 12 to 18 who are ready to dive into the sport, albeit without the contact.

According to an announcement from Kingsport's official website, the classes offer a comprehensive workout, emphasizing heart health, endurance, and weight management. Considering the growing concerns around child health and the sedentary lifestyle digital indulgence encourages, such programs seek to foster physical engagement while building foundational athletic skills. Program Coordinator Michael Morris extolled the program's virtues, emphasizing, “Boxing is not your typical fitness activity, which is why you should consider signing up for the program today."

For those within city limits interested in lacing up, the registration cost sits at a reasonable $50 per person; however, for non-city dwellers, the price ticks up slightly to $60. Each enrolling participant will receive a pair of boxing gloves as part of the package.

Potential participants or their guardians are directed to sign up through an expedient online process. By visiting Kingsport's website or the Connect Kingsport app, users can navigate to the "CivicRec" link, where a simple search for "boxing" will lead them to the registration page.
