In a recent update ahead of the next City Council meeting, Councilwoman Gwen McKenzie signaled her intent to pause a resolution that has drawn considerable local attention. The measure, which concerns the sale and development of city property by the Emerald Youth Foundation, is scheduled for debate and decision, according to the City of Knoxville.
The property in question is located on the south side of Magnolia Avenue, surrounded by Beaman Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, and Alice Street. The site is envisioned to be transformed into a hub for youth and family services, encompassing educational enrichment, sports, wellness, and various other activities, as per the City of Knoxville.
This item is scheduled to appear on the agenda at the next regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 2, as reported by the City of Knoxville. At the time the agenda is adopted—near the start of the meeting—Councilmember McKenzie plans to move for a two-week postponement of the item.
