A fire that broke out in a Boyle Heights church on Sunday was swiftly contained by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), with no injuries reported. CBS Los Angeles reported that the incident took place at approximately 3:15 p.m. on the 1300 block of E. Pleasant Avenue. A coordinated response from the LAFD, involving 45 firefighters, managed to extinguish the fire within a duration that fell just under 30 minutes.
The blaze was restricted to an ancillary room inside the church; the department's efforts were successful in preserving the main sanctuary and the religious artifacts it houses. "With a well-coordinated offense, the first arriving 45 LAFD Firefighters took just 28 minutes to skillfully extinguish flames," according to a statement from LAFD Spokesperson Brian Humphrey. As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the situation is under control.
The fire triggered a "Greater Alarm" response from the LAFD. This categorization is indicative of the potential severity of a fire situation, prompting additional resources and personnel to be dispatched to the incident site. An LAFD alert initially communicated details of the event, mentioning a fire within a small room of the one-story church building.
