Thunderbolt Middle School in Lake Havasu City faced tense moments on Thursday after a student reported a violent threat while on the bus. Lake Havasu City Police responded to the scene and the school was placed on lockdown as a safety precaution. According to an official statement by Lieutenant Frank Hayden, it was claimed that an older cousin of one of the students was planning to "shoot it up," as per the City of Lake Havasu.
After a thorough investigation that included interviews with the student in question and several witnesses, it was determined the actual threat had been misreported. The student had spoken of a scuffle, not a shooting, claiming their cousin would "beat up" others, according to the City of Lake Havasu. Unfortunately, the incident turned out to be a case of altered stories; the student and another witness later confessed to changing their statements, per the information provided by Lake Havasu City Police Department.
In light of these revelations, the two students who fabricated the school shooting threat were arrested and charged. They stand accused of causing significant disruption by feeding false information to the authorities – leading to the charges of Disruption of an Educational Institution. The district and police have underscored their zero-tolerance policy when it comes to the safety of their students. Each case is met with a rigorous investigation to ensure the well-being of all those involved.
Lake Havasu Unified School District and the city's police department have made it clear: safety of the student body is a top priority. "The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority," explained Lieutenant Hayden in the original report by the City of Lake Havasu.
