The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has initiated roadwork at the Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area that will affect access in the area. A section of Muddy Bayou Road from Deville Crossing to Nolan Bayou Road is temporarily closed to allow for the installation of replacement culverts due to existing damage.

The construction project is intended to improve drainage capacity in the area, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall. During the closure, access to the Muddy Bayou boat launch and Nolan Bayou Road will be available via a detour along Hunt Road. Travelers should plan accordingly for the temporary change in route.

No completion date has been announced for the project. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has stated that an update will be provided once the road is reopened to the public.

The Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in the southern parts of LaSalle and Catahoula parishes, approximately 20 miles northeast of Alexandria. Recognized for its ecological value, the area is managed with long-term conservation in mind. While the temporary road closure may affect access, the ongoing improvements support the preservation and functionality of the WMA for both wildlife and public use.
