Art aficionados and the creatively curious, mark your calendars for the forthcoming Art Talk at the Lewisville Grand Theater. On August 12, the Visual Art League of Lewisville is gearing up to host a presentation, "From Funny Farmer to Fine Artist – One Journey Through Art, Life & Academia," led by the artist and academic dean Brett Dyer, as per a recent announcement. Slated to kick off at 7 p.m. at the 100 N. Charles Street venue, Dyer will delve into his transformative journey from his humble beginnings to a figure of artistic and educational influence.
During the Tuesday evening affair, attendees are promised an up-close-and-personal encounter with Dyer's saga, which saw him leap from menial jobs like a dishwasher, server, and bartender, to donning the hat of an artist and academic dean. Audiences, listening to stories woven from his life, will also get a sneak peek at Dyer's art pieces, both completed and mid-creation. These visual treats intend to shine a light on his artistic method, characterized by layers and expressiveness, according to the City of Lewisville's announcement.
The man of the hour, Brett Dyer, holds a crucial position as the Dean of Gallery, Theatre, and Live Event Operations at Dallas College, managing a vast array of 12 galleries and ten theaters, along with a significant art collection. Drawing inspiration from resilience, spirituality, and identity, his work has circulated in the art world, earning features in Aesthetica Magazine and Studio Visit. His path from a farm in Texas to academic prominence mirrors the transformative power he ascribes to art, an ethos he shares and teaches in his various roles.
