A significant drug bust occurred earlier this week in Lewisville, Texas, when local police seized 285 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop. According to a social media post from the Lewisville Police Department, the traffic stop was initiated by Officer Slaughter on Sunday for expired registration and lack of insurance, a violation of the Texas Transportation Code.
The police department's post detailed that upon informing the driver of the vehicle's impending tow due to the lack of insurance, per LPD policy, Officer Slaughter noticed the smell of unburnt marijuana. The scent provided probable cause, which allowed for a deeper search beyond the standard inventory. "During the search now aided by Officer Acosta, officers discovered and seized 285 pounds of marijuana from a sealed compartment within the vehicle," the Lewisville Police Department revealed.
Commendations were extended to Officer Slaughter on the department's platform, which invited the community to join in recognizing the officer's "vigilance and dedication to keeping Lewisville safe," per the Lewisville Police Department.
