Beachgoers in Los Angeles County, take heed: ocean water warning advisories have been issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health for various beaches due to high bacterial levels. Several popular spots, including Latigo Shore Drive in Malibu, The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach, and Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, are among the affected locations, with advisories extending 100 yards around points of interest like public access steps, club border fences, and piers.
According to the official bulletin released by the county, these bacterial surges can pose health risks to those engaging in water activities like swimming, surfing, and playing; the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica and Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach are also under warnings, with the notice specifying these areas based on the latest test results that showed bacterial levels beyond what is considered safe.
Health officials have lifted the warning at Castlerock Storm Drain on Topanga County Beach after water quality tests confirmed levels are back within state standards. Swimmers and surfers are cleared to return. Updates on beach conditions are available through the closure hotline at 1-800-525-5662.
To check the status of various locations and view a map of impacted areas, the Department of Public Health's website provides ongoing updates, and if questions arise, the public can also contact the department at (626) 430-5360, the Los Angeles County noted.
