A fatal shooting at the Oak Tree Apartments on Lake Shore Boulevard has claimed the life of a man in what authorities are calling an active investigation. News4JAX reported that the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) found the victim, a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, with gunshot wounds around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Despite the efforts of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue crews, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Additional details from First Coast News indicated that the shooting took place in the parking lot of the same complex, after which the victim ran into an apartment building. It was there that a resident alerted authorities by calling 911. JSO has yet to identify a suspect or the victim as the inquiry into the incident continues.
Further investigative efforts are being reported by Action News Jax, which adds that the police were called to the complex shortly before 5:25 p.m. Tuesday. A motorcycle found at the scene is presumed to belong to the victim, and detectives are reportedly reviewing area surveillance footage. However, officials say that residents have so far offered few leads.
The JSO is expected to remain at the site for several hours as they gather evidence in an effort to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. As of now, the connection between the victim and the apartment complex has not been made clear by authorities, nor has a motive or any connections to potential suspects been established.
