A pedestrian incident in Waikiki last Friday that left a 57-year-old man critically injured is currently under investigation. As per statements from the Honolulu Police Department, cited by Hawaii News Now, the accident happened around 4 p.m. near the intersection of Kuhio Avenue and Royal Hawaiian Avenue.
While walking on the sidewalk, the victim tripped and fell into the street, where he was struck by an eastbound bus on Kuhio Avenue, driven by a 56-year-old man. Following the collision, the injured pedestrian was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, with his condition initially reported as serious and later updated to critical, in the statement obtained by KHON2.
Following the incident, the bus driver, who was reported to have remained at the scene, experienced no injuries. Initial investigations suggest that speed, drugs, or alcohol were not contributing factors to the collision. Further inquiries are being conducted by the HPD’s Traffic Division and Vehicular Homicide Section to understand the complete sequence of events leading to this incident.
