After nearly ten years of legal twists and turns, Anthony Joseph Veach received his sentence for multiple counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. As per the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido detailed that Veach pleaded no contest to the charges against him, involving the sexual assault of a young family member. The conclusion of this case came with a substantial prison term and lifetime monitoring for Veach.
Sentenced on Wednesday, Veach will serve 11 to 25 years on each count, concurrently, in the Michigan Department of Corrections. After pleading no contest to three charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree (relationship) back on July 7, Veach has been credited with 3,126 days already served. Adding a layer of complexity to his case, a closed courtroom during the testimony of a child in the initial trial led to his conviction being reversed by the Michigan Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court ultimately denying Certiorari.
As part of his sentencing terms, Veach is prohibited from contacting the victim or their family during and after his incarceration, necessitating electronic monitoring and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. It's noted that the sentence corresponds squarely within Michigan Sentencing Guidelines, which Lucido says speaks to the commitment of his office in "achieving justice and following the laws of the State of Michigan," according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
