The Manhattan Beach Police Department (MBPD) released its latest crime summary, and it looks like the city has been relatively quiet, at least as far as major crimes go. Between July 24 and July 30, 2025, the MBPD fielded 858 calls for service, which included dispatched calls and officer-initiated contacts, leading to 15 arrests and the generation of 55 reports, as shared by a published document on the city’s official website.

According to the summary, there were three assaults spread across different patrol areas and a single robbery that resulted in a rather bizarre encounter in which the thief ended up handing his backpack, complete with identification, over to the victim, now, while there were no auto thefts and both residential and business burglaries were at a standstill there were eight reported thefts along with four vehicle burglaries and a total of seven vandalism incidents that left a slew of cars with unsightly scratches. Most of the car-related crimes were concentrated in Patrol Areas 2 and 4, according to details found in the MBPD document.

The robbery, which stood out due to the suspect's rather clumsy escape, occurred on the 1800 block of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, where the victim graciously allowed the suspect to use his cellphone only to have the man run off with it – dropping both the phone and his backpack as he attempted to flee; the encounter ended with the suspect punching the victim before escaping. The MBPD Detective Bureau is actively looking into this case, as evidenced by the report.

Meanwhile, the instances of vandalism involved damaged vehicles, grandly sitting idle as pristine possessions, now blemished; doors of Porsches, Fords, Chevrolets, GMCs, a Chrysler, a Jeep, a Nissan, and a Dodge all fell victim to surface scratches, a testament to the casual destruction that can mar the façade of everyday life, an incident tally laid bare by the city's weekly crime statistics. In response to the vehicle burglaries and thefts, the MBPD has taking it upon themselves to issue crime prevention tips which include always locking your doors and closing windows, not leaving valuables visible, using car alarms or anti-theft devices, and being vigilant and reporting suspicious behaviors, these efforts reflect a proactive stance to thwart the hands of those who might pilfer through belongings when backs are turned.

In a move to encourage community safety, the MBPD advises residents to lock car doors, remove valuables from sight, and remain alert for suspicious activity. They hope that by arming the community with knowledge on preventative measures, the residents can better safeguard their possessions against opportunistic violations.
