Medford's commitment to enriching its community has found an enduring ally in the Council Community Initiative Fund (CCIF), which recently funneled local and state marijuana tax dollars into various cultural and educational undertakings. According to a recent announcement on the City of Medford's official website, the CCIF has backed the RogueX Public Art Sculpture, swim scholarships, enhancements to the Santo Community Center's security, and improvements to the Medford Senior Center.

Art in public spaces has gained a massive boost with the RogueX sculpture finding residence at the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex, thanks to a $75,000 CCIF grant this towering piece, crafted in welded aluminum by muralist Melissa Ghiglieri and sees Phil Ortega, of the local youth collective LifeArt, steering the project afield, has added a new visual element to Medford. In tandem, $50,000 from the Fund was directed to RogueX Swim Scholarships, offering a much-needed reprieve in the form of half-priced aquatic program access to 136 economically challenged children thus far.

The city's younger demographics also benefit from the CCIF's consideration, with the Santo Community Center receiving a $50,000 injection for security enhancements, orchestrating safer after-school engagement through controlled access points.

Not forgetting the elders among us, the Medford Senior Center was deemed another worthy recipient, gaining $20,000 for structural necessities, including a waterline repair and restroom refurbishments to bolster its capacity to serve as a vibrant hub for over-50s seeking social, educational, and physical activities. Such allocations underscore a community-centric vision, embracing various age groups under its fold, and address foundational needs that support the continuous rhythm of community interaction, learning, and growth.
