Memphis City is gearing up for its annual 901 Day, and this year, Beale Street is the place to be on September 1. The celebration, which is free and open to the public, is about to bring a lively fusion of music, activities, and local flavors to the historic street from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. According to the City of Memphis, attendees can expect a full itinerary of performances and family-friendly fun.
The event, supported by a coalition including The Memphis Grizzlies, iHeartRadio, and ArtsMemphis, is set to feature a plethora of local talent and entertainment. "901 Day is the perfect opportunity for us to say yes — yes to who we are and yes to everything we can be," Memphis Mayor Paul Young said. Visitors can look forward to a packed schedule featuring DJs, live bands, and a surprise headliner. Local talents such as DJ Alpha Whiskey, The Sensational Barnes Brothers, and the Stax Music Academy are set to perform. Beyond the music, the event offers a variety of activities, including the interactive Touch-A-Truck experience and hands-on DIY projects in the Maker Space, as per the city's website.
For a taste of local talent, the Main Stage at Beale and Fourth Street will feature radio hosts from WYXR and iHeartRadio, and a special guest performance produced with Peppa Mouth of the South. The Spark @ Handy Park Stage lineup includes, among others, Ekpe Abioto and the Central High School Jazz Band, each bringing their unique sound to the stage. The event also gives a platform to rising stars at the Memphis Teen Creative Summit, engendering discussion and promoting youth talent.
Alongside the performances, the event will feature creative outlets for all ages. The Maker Space at Third @ Beale will be filled with hands-on art activities, while Handy Park will host local vendors showcasing Memphis’s entrepreneurial spirit.
