As summer waves goodbye and backpacks get dusted off for the school year, Mesa Aquatics keeps the aquatic fun afloat with a splash of engaging pool events and activities for those clinging to the vestiges of summer leisure. The City of Mesa pools may have wrapped up their daily public swimming schedules, but that hasn't dampened the spirits at Mesa Aquatics.
For movie buffs who like their films with a side of chlorine, there's the "Dive-In Movie" event at Brimhall Aquatic Complex located at, 5035 E. Southern Ave., on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. A screening of Disney's "Brave" will cast its vibrant pixels onto an inflatable screen, all while attendees relax in the pool. The event promises to deliver a cinematic experience that blurs the lines between screen and water – without any over-the-top fanfare. Keep in mind, tubes are available to grab on a first-come, first-served basis, and with an admission of $7, it’s suggested to pre-register, according to the City of Mesa.
Saturdays and Sundays are still swimming days at Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 S. Crismon Road and Rhodes Aquatic Complex, 1860 S. Longmore. These centers are throwing a lifeline to weekend warriors looking for a dip and will remain open through Sunday, Aug. 31. On the inclusive side of things, Mesa Aquatics is also offering an Adaptive Swim Team, part of their Adaptive Sports programs tailored for individuals with developmental disabilities, ages 6 and up, as reported by the City of Mesa.
The exercise doesn’t have to stop there though, lap swim for ages 13 and up is available at Kino Aquatic Center, 848 N. Horne, and Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 S. Crismon with fall lap passes on sale for $120 for individuals – a price that’s knocked down to $90 through Aug. 21 – and $75 for seniors, further reduced to $56 through Aug. 21. Water Aerobics is also on the menu for ages 13 and up. And for those looking to stir up a current, there's River Walking at the Mesa Aquatic Complex, 1630 E. Southern Ave., and the Flow League at the FlowRider located within Rhodes Aquatic Complex, 1860 S. Longmore, as detailed by the City of Mesa.
As if that weren't enough to keep the public drenched in activities, the Pumpkin Splash will carve out its place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Stapley Aquatic Complex, 5250 E. Hermosa Vista. With two sessions, Afternoon Harvest from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Fright Night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., attendees will get more than their daily dose of vitamin sea. The cost is $7, including the pumpkin, with pre-registration required. For a full rundown of what's on deck and to register for these activities, swimmers can check out the Mesa Parks and Recreation fall PLAYBOOK, as per the City of Mesa.
