Minneapolis has seen another day of tense police activity, this time involving a park officer and a suspect in a sexual assault case. On Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, Officer Daniel McShane of the Minneapolis Park Police was injured during an arrest in Mueller Park, responding to a distressing incident reported earlier in the day. According to a bulletin from the Minneapolis Police, McShane, a veteran with 37 years under his belt, found himself in a violent confrontation after attempting to detain 28-year-old Tazrick Tobias Nall, who was later charged with second-degree assault and attempting to disarm a peace officer.
The situation escalated quickly after McShane, who joined the Park Police in March 2020, approached Nall in an alley on the 2400 block between Bryant Ave S and Colfax Ave S Nall resisted arrest which led to a physical altercation where both fell to the ground, during the struggle Nall tried to grab Officer McShane's gun and succeeded in discharging it. A press release by the Minneapolis Police Department detailed that, "Officer McShane deployed his taser in an attempt to secure Nall, but Nall was not deterred." It took the arrival of two Minneapolis Police officers, another Park Police officer, and a sergeant to help control and secure Nall.
Following the incident, McShane was taken to the hospital for his injuries but was released the same day. Meanwhile, Nall was evaluated, treated at a hospital before being booked into Hennepin County Jail. The charges pressed in Hennepin County against Nall are serious and point to a disturbing disregard for law enforcement safety and protocol. In the aftermath, Officer McShane has been placed on standard paid administrative leave, a routine procedure in such incidents.
With the gun being discharged during the altercation, the Minneapolis Park Police have sought the Minneapolis Police Department to lead an independent investigation, ensuring the matter is handled with due diligence and transparency. The underlying case, a reported sexual assault involving children that brought McShane to Mueller Park in the first place, is still active and under further investigation, as no conclusions have been reached yet. The General Offence (GO) number logged for the incident is 25-227725. For more details on this ongoing story, the official statement has been made available on the Minneapolis Police Department's bulletin, found here.
