A fatal crash happened on August 11 at about 3:20 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 471 near Atlanta. Police said 40-year-old Dustin Demoss of Monroe was driving a 1995 Dodge work truck when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a 2012 GMC head-on, according to the Louisiana State Police.
Police said Demoss was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. The two people in the GMC, who were wearing seat belts, had moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital. Investigators collected toxicology samples to determine if impairment was a factor, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.
Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that resulted in the death of Demoss. Authorities said distracted and inattentive driving remain major causes of accidents in the state and reminded drivers that “A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.” The cause of why Demoss’s Dodge crossed into the opposite lane is still under investigation. Further updates will be released as information becomes available.
