The Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of Public Health (OPH), in coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and Montgomery Township officials, has scheduled an adulticide spray to reduce mosquito populations carrying the West Nile Virus (WNV). The spray will take place at Windlestrae Park today between 8 and 11 p.m., weather permitting. If weather conditions prevent spraying, the backup date is set for Thursday next week.

According to the Montgomery County, residents within the spray zone are advised to remain indoors with windows closed and ventilation systems turned off during the spray and for 30 minutes afterward. OPH staff will use Duet® Duel-Action Adulticide, applying 0.75 fluid ounces per acre with an ATV-mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayer. The treatment is aimed at targeting adult mosquitoes as part of broader vector control efforts.

In addition to spraying, OPH is treating breeding grounds with larvicide. Residents can report potential mosquito breeding sites, such as areas with stagnant water, by calling 610-278-5117 or emailing [email protected]. Authorities also encourage residents to reduce standing water on their properties, maintain window screens, clean gutters, and properly cover or maintain swimming pools to help limit mosquito populations.
