Claridon Township residents can expect a change in their driving habits come early September. The Geauga County Sheriff's Office announced via social media that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be installing a new 4-Way Stop at the intersection of SR 608 (Old State Rd.) and Chardon-Windsor Rd. This move is aimed to improve safety in the area, addressing concerns by residents and local officials.
For those used to breezing through the intersection, take note: The new traffic pattern will be implemented on Tuesday, September 9. ODOT is not wasting any time and will start notifying motorists this week. Drivers should expect to see message boards alerting them to the upcoming 4-Way Stop. In his announcement, Sheriff Scott A. Hildenbrand relayed, "Stop Signs, All-Way Stop plaques, and painted stop bars will be installed on SR 608."
Details of the signage and preparedness measures were outlined in the Sheriff's office post. Motorists traveling SR 608 will see signs stating "Be Prepared to Stop" and "New Stop" at the intersection. These are designed to ensure drivers are aware of the changes and reduce the risk of accidents during the transition period. The emphasis is on adhering to the speed limit, coming to a full stop, and proceeding with caution.
ODOT's involvement marks a proactive step towards curbing the potential for vehicular mishaps in Claridon Township. Sheriff Hildenbrand summed up ODOT's message in his post: "ODOT wants to remind motorists to follow the posted speed limit, come to a complete stop at all stop signs, and use caution when proceeding through the intersection," as per the Geauga County Sheriff's Office. The decision, rooted in concerns for public safety, reflects a wider initiative to improve road conditions for Ohio's drivers.
