The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) has just laid out its roadmap for the 2025 cross country season, with new head coach Francesca Green at the helm. The Miners are looking to start on the right foot on August 30 at the 39th Lori Fitzgerald Open in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The excitement is tangible as the team preps to tackle what appears to be a strategically designed season aimed at peaking for the big-ticket competitions later in the year. "We're excited to unveil our 2025 cross country schedule, which provides our student-athletes with opportunities to compete against some of the best in the region and the country," Green said, as per UTEP Athletics.
Following the season opener, the Miners plan to quickly transition to their next challenge up Interstate 25, showcasing their talent in Albuquerque at the Lobo Invitational on September 13. A notable date on the calendar is September 27, when coach Green will return to her former stomping grounds with the team for the Dave Murray Cross Country Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. Green's inaugural season is packed with meets that are just not about crossing the finish line first. They're shaping up to be a sequence of strategically picked battles, preparing UTEP’s runners for the war that is the championship season.
As the temperatures begin to drop in October, UTEP will hit the road once more, wrapping up its regular season at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas, on October 17. This lineup of competitions builds up to the Conference USA Cross Championships taking place in Huntsville, Alabama, on November 1st, gearing the athletes towards the high-stakes championship meets that will define their season.
The culmination of Green's carefully crafted schedule appears to pull no punches, as UTEP looks to peak just in time for the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships slated for November 14 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following this, the Miners hope to cap off their season with a strong performance at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Columbia, Missouri, on November 22. Green has made it clear, UTEP isn't just participating; they're planning to fiercely compete. "This schedule reflects our commitment to competing at a high level, developing our athletes, and proudly representing UTEP and the city of El Paso on a national stage," Green emphasized, as obtained by UTEP Athletics.
