The New Orleans Police Department has released its latest crime statistics, covering the period of July 27 through August 2. Focusing on gun-related offenses, the data reflects a downward trend in gun arrests and seizures compared to the previous year. A highlight from the arrests includes the July 30 capture of Dylan Parr, a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run incident.

According to the NOPD News release, the authorities have made 168 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm year-to-date, a notable 48-percent decline from the 323 arrests during the same period in 2024. The NOPD attributes these numbers to their ongoing efforts to curb gun-related crimes within the community.

The decrease in gun seizures is similarly significant, with NOPD data showing 1,097 firearms collected in the course of criminal investigations. This number marks a 23-percent decrease from the 1,430 firearms seized last year during the same time frame. Public safety initiatives and community engagement have been a focal point for the NOPD in efforts to reduce gun violence.

Adding to the list of efforts by NOPD, the arrest made on July 30 bears particular attention. "On July 30, the NOPD arrested Dylan Parr (white male, DOB: 06-02-2005) of Slidell, La., in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on July 27, 2025, on Interstate 10 East near the Read Boulevard exit," the NOPD News release states. Parr surrendered to police while accompanied by his attorney and was subsequently booked for "hit-and-run driving with serious injury or death."
