Crews were quick to act, with the fire being reported under control shortly after 9 a.m., the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency had sent out a notice concerning the fire at around 8:20 a.m.,. In the interim, Kohala Ranch graciously opened its private road to allow for the redirection of traffic, as HFD's firefighting efforts went underway, as per a report by Hawaii News Now. Motorists found themselves being turned around at the telephone exchange on Kawaihae Road to avoid the affected area.
