As the new school year approaches, the City of North Las Vegas is highlighting its Safekey program, a pre-and post-school childcare option that caters to students from Kindergarten to 5th Grade. The program offers both educational and recreational activities and ensures each child receives a hot meal daily. According to a recent announcement posted on North Las Vegas's official website, Safekey is gearing up for the 2025-26 school year with the goal of providing a safe, supervised environment for young students.
The details, as outlined by the City of North Las Vegas, reveal that the program will run Monday through Friday, with morning sessions beginning at 7 a.m. and after-school activities from 3 to 6 p.m. For certain schools with extended hours, the program runs until 6 p.m. Charlice Jordan, the Recreation Coordinator, emphasized the importance of the program by saying, “Safekey provides a sheltered space for students to engage with their friends instead of being alone after school, all under the direct supervision of trained staff.” Jordan's statement underscores Safekey's role in offering a structured environment where students can focus on schoolwork and enjoy leisure activities.
An essential aspect of the program is the nutritious hot meal that each student receives, ensuring that the children have access to proper nutrition amidst their busy school day activities. The program is not only a convenience for parents and guardians looking for structured childcare, but also a hub for social and educational growth for the children.
The city has listed 20 Safekey sites spread across North Las Vegas, including Antonello, Bruner, and Cozine, among others, with select locations offering the extended afternoon sessions. Families interested in the program can view more details about the schedule, availability, and costs on the North Las Vegas website or by contacting them directly at 702-633-1608.
