A North Royalton spa has been shuttered in the wake of law enforcement's latest initiative against human trafficking, with two individuals in custody following a raid by the North Royalton Police Department and the Northeast Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force. The raid occurred at Meiao Foot Spa on Wallings Road, according to Cleveland19, and the bust unfolded on Thursday morning as officers and detectives executed warrants around 10 a.m.
The duo arrested at the spa is slated for transfer to the United States Border Patrol, and they face potential charges of prostitution in Parma Municipal Court as the spa now finds itself permanently closed due to its suspected involvement in labor and sex trafficking, the spa's suspected involvement in these illicit activities were corroborated by the North Royalton Police reports WKYC.
This local enforcement action is part of a more extensive, statewide push against trafficking operations that, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, are "hiding in plain sight" and have nothing to do with "health or relaxation." "These places are not about health or relaxation, they are about exploitation," Yost declared, in a statement reported by Cleveland.com. Since 2024, a series of similar raids have targeted spas across various Ohio cities, including Maumee, Youngstown, Lakewood, and more.
The ongoing investigation by the North Royalton Police underscores the broader collaborative efforts in Ohio to dismantle enterprises that exploit individuals through forced labor and sex trafficking, with the Meiao Foot Spa operation currently halted, further details of the investigation have yet to be disclosed but the authorities confirm the narrative is still being written and the community awaits the pen's next stroke, said North Royalton Police in a public statement.
