Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine, along with state leaders and local partners, officially opened the I-70 westbound rest area located in Zanesville, a new pit stop designed to safely and informatively serve travelers across the region. According to an official statement from the Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's office, the newly minted rest area will offer much more than the traditional amenities, aiming to "highlight the amazing attractions across our beautiful state that make Ohio, The Heart of It All."

The Muskingum County rest area promises to not only serve as a place for weary travelers to momentarily rest, but also to serve as an educational gateway to the region's attractions, showcasing places like The Wilds and the Y-Bridge among others. In an apparent effort to seamlessly connect the state's cultural heritage with this modern facility, pottery from the Zanesville Museum of Art is proudly on display to honor the area widely recognized as the "Pottery Capital of the World," according to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. The new exhibits embody the Governor's plan to quickly upgrade and elevate the standard of Ohio’s rest areas, enhancing overall convenience and safety for visitors.

Notably, these revamped stops will incorporate elements of Ohio's natural beauty, featuring native plants and trails tailored even for the family dog. The implementation of rocking chairs aims to provide a quaint and comfortable setting for respite. Additionally, the rest area's Storybook Trails present an interactive reading experience, where kids accompanied by their families can enjoy the pages of a Dolly Parton Imagination Library book, a project that celebrates literacy by distributing books to children under five.

"We love stopping at rest areas when we're traveling with our grandkids, and Ohio's re-imagined rest areas provide the opportunity to read a story, learn about the local area, and stretch our legs," shared Ohio First Lady DeWine in a statement via Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's website. The First Lady emphasized the impact of such projects, noting that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio includes 405,000 children under age 5 who receive a free book in the mail every month. The Storybook Trails aim to further grant families the opportunity to spend quality time together through reading.
