Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond, along with 21 other state attorneys general, is challenging the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) over its Net Zero Standard for financial institutions. The standard focuses on fossil fuel-related sectors and was introduced by SBTi, a group connected to the UN and several non-profit organizations.
As per the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office website, earlier this month, the attorneys general sent a letter to SBTi raising concerns about potential legal violations. The letter cites possible antitrust issues, noting that financial members following the standards could unintentionally limit production and services.
The attorneys general are requesting more transparency from SBTi, seeking information to assess whether its actions could involve illegal conduct. The letter was signed by attorneys general from states including Iowa, Alabama, and Texas.
