A tragic collision between a pickup truck and a train in Kenosha County has left one person dead, officials report. The incident occurred yesterday morning. Fire crews and emergency responders were dispatched to County Highway W near 45th Street, near the town of Wheatland, after the crash was reported around 10:45 a.m., according to WISN.
First responders, already deployed for a concurrent training event, were able to arrive quickly at the scene, though how quickly was not immediately clear. "It's great for our mutual partners to get together, communicate well and coordinate command," Justin Ball from Twin Lakes Fire & Rescue lauded the response efforts, TMJ4 reported. They added, "Making sure we're forming the right plan and taking care of the patients."
The crash took place on a private farm service road and the sole occupant of the pickup truck was critically injured and transported via Flight for Life with life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed. The Kenosha County Sheriff's Office later announced that the individual succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the incident raised environmental concerns when, listening to police scanner audio from Broadcastify, authorities discovered one of the train's shipping containers — filled with a liquid — was damaged, WTMJ learned. Still being determined, the nature of the substance and whether it posed any hazard were still unclear at the time of the report.
Multiple fire and rescue teams, including Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue, Randall Fire, and Wheatland Fire, joined the response to the accident. Full details of the crash are currently under investigation, as law enforcement works to determine the cause of the fatal incident.
