According to WFTV, the removal of these treatments is to ensure compliance with state and federal law, with work causing traffic disruptions expected from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. over several days.
The specified intersections, including South Rosalind Avenue at East Jackson Street, Church Street at South Rosalind Avenue, and twelve others, will witness traditional pavement markings replace the city's initial safety enhancements which were aimed at increasing visibility for pedestrians and cyclists, drivers can anticipate detours and delays in these areas the city advises travelers to take note of posted detours that may guide them around the closures and work zones.
In a statement obtained by FOX 35 Orlando, Orlando officials conveyed their commitment to pedestrian and cyclist safety despite state orders to revert to standard markings. Street closures and construction times are reportedly subject to unexpected changes, potentially influenced by factors such as weather.
This latest initiative by FDOT follows their recent action to paint over a rainbow crosswalk near the Pulse nightclub site in Orlando, a decision met with statewide controversy for overriding what some residents considered symbolic public art. City officials reassert that they must comply with the overarching legal framework despite their disagreement with the orders.
