An early this morning blaze caused by an overheated air conditioner cord left a Canton home in ruins and its resident displaced. Cleveland19 reports that fire crews were called to the 800 block of High Avenue NW around 1:40 a.m., where they encountered heavy fire erupting from the front of the two-and-a-half-story house.
The resident, a woman who was not at home at the time the fire started, returned to the scene as firefighters tackled the flames. She shared with firefighters that the air conditioning's cord had overheated, sparking the fire, as stated in a release obtained by WKYC. Fortunately, she was unharmed in the incident.
Officials have ruled the incident an accidental electrical fire. The home, now deemed unsafe for habitation, is expected to be demolished due to the extent of the damage. The Canton Fire Department has estimated the damage costs at approximately $18,300 for the structure and $5,000 for the contents within, according to information obtained by FOX8.
