Police have apprehended a man following a thwarted burglary at a Palo Alto residence, as reported by the Palo Alto Police Department. The incident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, saw officers swiftly respond after a dispatch center received a 5:32 p.m. call indicating a burglary in progress in the 1400 block of Hamilton Avenue.
Upon arrival at the scene, authorities were informed that the suspected burglar may have fled by jumping over a fence into a neighboring yard. Police conducted search operations, which subsequently led to the suspect's detention without further incident. Despite navigating an active scene with a suspect on the loose, police managed to secure the scene and ensure no further threat to community safety.
Further investigation by police revealed that the suspect had illegally entered the residence while the homeowner, a septuagenarian man, was absent due to vacation. Disturbingly, upon the resident's return, he discovered his garage ransacked and his possessions missing. Then, he witnessed the suspect exiting an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) before attempting his escape over the fence.
The arrested individual, identified as 34-year-old Dwight Tucker Jr. from Clearlake Oaks, is facing charges of residential burglary and probation violation, both felonies. Additionally, Tucker's alleged misdeeds, including providing false information to police, a misdemeanor, and reportedly giving officers a fake name upon detention, are now subject to the process of justice.
Following the arrest, Tucker has been booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
