Pierce County is inviting those interested in preserving history to apply for the 2026 Historic Preservation Grant Program. The program supports projects that protect and promote the region’s historical and cultural heritage. According to a recent announcement by Pierce County, applications are open from yesterday through September 30, allowing individuals and organizations to submit proposals for funding.
Funds will be awarded based on the public benefit of the project, its role in maintaining the region’s history, and efforts toward equity. Building projects may receive grants of up to $35,000 for the protection, rehabilitation, or reconstruction of historically designated structures or sites within Pierce County. Non-building projects are also eligible for grants, with funding available up to $15,000.
Pierce County encourages diverse applicants, including nonprofits, public agencies, and individual property owners with listings on historic registers. Applicants should be aware that initial project costs must be covered upfront before reimbursement from the County is provided. To assist potential applicants, Pierce County will hold a Lunch and Learn event on September 9 at 12 p.m., offering an opportunity to learn more about the program and ask questions.
Applicants can find detailed eligibility criteria and application instructions on the Pierce County website. The site also features information about previous grant recipients and their projects, offering insight and examples for this year’s applicants.
