In a recent declaration by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors, the month of September has been officially recognized as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Public Health Program Manager Cori Wilson read the proclamation into the record, highlighting a somber statistic: last year, 98 county residents took their own lives. The Board, alongside Wilson and Andre Davis from the Medical Examiner's Office, acknowledged the gravity of the issue with a photograph marking the occasion.
With the recognition of these tragedies, Pinal County asserts its dedication to mental health awareness and the implementation of preventive measures. As reported, Wilson's affiliation with the initiative suggests a commitment from the county to address this often-overlooked but increasingly critical public health concern.
Alongside the Suicide Prevention proclamation, the Board of Supervisors has passed another proclamation, this time commemorating a historic stride in American rights—the 60th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. With this, the board reaffirms the county's commitment to safeguarding the voting rights of all eligible citizens, a cornerstone of the nation's democracy. The proclamation acknowledges the ongoing efforts to ensure every vote is counted and every voice heard in Pinal County.
