Residents and visitors in Pinellas County should take note—county government offices will be giving their staffers a day off this coming Monday, Sept. 1, in honor of Labor Day. This announcement comes per the official Pinellas County website, detailing that the board of county commissioners, clerk's office, tax collector, property appraiser's office, and supervisor of elections will all be taking the day to observe the national holiday.
The same goes for local parks and conservation resources. Places like the administration office, Heritage Village, Brooker Creek Environmental Education Center, and Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center will not be open to the public. In case you were looking to adopt a pet or deal with animal services, those offices and adoption center at Pinellas County Animal Services will also be, closed. Make sure to plan your errands accordingly.
Don't count on getting building services or dealing with contractor licensing issues either. The county's Building Services office won't serve the public Monday, and neither will the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board. Those in need of human services will also find doors shut as Pinellas County Human Services office locations will not be working.
Now, waste disposal might still be on your to-do list, and there's some good news. The Solid Waste Disposal Complex will maintain its opening hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—however, forget about the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Center, Swap Shop, and Administration Building as those, will be closed. For utility emergencies, the Business and Customer Services Call Center and lobby at 14 S. Fort Harrison will be out of service, but can make payments online or call (727) 464-4000, where an answering service will handle urgent matters.
All these closures and schedule changes have been floated as a way for the community to properly mark Labor Day, a national occasion intended to honor the contributions of workers. Though the holiday will pause many county services, everything is expected to resume normal hours come next Tuesday, according to the Pinellas County Government's announcement.
