Pittsburgh International Airport is on the verge of unveiling its new landside terminal and is offering an exclusive sneak peek to the public. On Oct. 11, an open house event will take place, allowing visitors to freely wander through the updated facility ahead of its official launch. According to WTAE, the open house is an opportunity for residents to witness the fruits of this significant infrastructure project personally. Registration for the free event is set to open next week.

The open house is part of a series of events designed to test the terminal's readiness rigorously. A trial is scheduled for Sept. 20 to simulate a typical day's passenger traffic. Volunteers will be given various roles to play, from arriving for departure to navigating the terminal after landing, reported WTAE.

Altogether, the modernization project amounts to a staggering $1.7 billion investment into the city's infrastructure, signaling a significant makeover since its inception in 2019. Attendees of the open house will witness state-of-the-art improvements, including eco-friendly snow melt systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and a cutting-edge space-finder system for parking. The terminal also boasts new security processes, with 12 lanes and advanced screening equipment in a unified area for both TSA PreCheck and non-PreCheck passengers, as detailed by TribLive.

"We’ve said from the beginning that this new state-of-the-art terminal is built for Pittsburgh, by Pittsburgh and we are excited to open the doors to the public to tour," Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis stated in a release obtained by TribLive. This event will be complemented by an array of activities suitable for all ages, orchestrated by community partners like the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and Tree Pittsburgh. These engagements not only aim to entertain but also to educate, aligning with the Airport Authority’s educational initiative, xBridge.

Before the public gets their first look, a gala is scheduled for Oct. 3 to honor the partners and organizations who played a pivotal role in the terminal's construction.
