Commuters on the 605 Freeway in Downey faced significant delays Wednesday morning as a police chase involving the Whittier Police Department culminated in a multi-vehicle collision. Sources from ABC7 reported the incident, which led to the temporary closure of all southbound lanes near Firestone Boulevard shortly before 10 a.m., and involved at least four cars.
The California Highway Patrol, as per the same report, assisted in the pursuit and subsequent accident aftermath. The crash scene was attended by firefighter-paramedics, although the extent of any injuries remained unclear. In under half an hour, traffic resumed in the HOV lane and two others, as authorities worked on the scene.
Additional coverage by City News Service indicated that no injuries were recorded despite the severe traffic jam and several damaged vehicles, including a California Highway Patrol car. Aerial footage captured by SkyFOX revealed considerable congestion extending for miles.
What triggered the chase remains a mystery, with neither source providing details on what instigated the incident. As the investigation unfolds, traffic on the 605 Freeway has been affected, with three lanes near Firestone Boulevard initially being shut down but reopened to facilitate southbound flow.
