A chaotic scene unfolded on the Ben Franklin Bridge yesterday as police pursued a stolen car, leading to significant traffic and several collisions. Authorities in Camden, New Jersey, had attempted to intercept the vehicle, linked to an organized theft ring, before it made its way into Philadelphia, causing a major backup during the chase.
Officers in Camden tried to stop the stolen car after identifying the occupants as known members of a theft ring, as reported by NBC Philadelphia. Their efforts were to no avail; the suspects fled, leading to a miles-long jam that stretched across the Delaware River and into New Jersey. As the chase escalated onto the bridge, the suspects’ vehicle started ramming into multiple other cars in a desperate attempt to escape. Despite the aggressive maneuvers, no injuries have been reported. Three suspects were arrested following the pursuit, and a gun was recovered from the scene. The individuals are believed to be part of an auto theft ring, previously known to police for related criminal activities, including vehicle thefts and assaults on police, according to Action News.
