Mark your calendars, art aficionados and wildlife advocates: starting September 1, the "Lights Out for Sea Turtles" art contest kicks into high gear with public voting, according to Charlotte County. Local artists have poured heart and talent into pieces that not only capture the beauty of these marine creatures but also underscore the importance of their conservation. The works are slated for exhibit at the Centennial Park Recreation Center at 1120 Centennial Blvd. in Port Charlotte, and the community is invited to play a part in choosing the winners.

One winner will be selected from adult submissions, with a separate category recognizing entries from younger participants. Entries reflecting the contest’s theme will be displayed at the Centennial Park Recreation Center. Public voting will be open during regular hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
